Baker Leads Gulls to Fifth Place Finish at Williams Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Endicott men's golf team finished fifth out of 18 teams at the Williams Invitational at the Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown, Mass. this weekend. The two-day tournament saw the Gulls finish with a score of +31 on the 6,808 yard, par 71 course. 

Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Maine) and Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.) each logged top-10 finishes in the 94-man field to lift the Gulls to the fifth place finish. Baker led all Gulls as he tied for 6th overall with a two-day total of +5, 147 (72-75), while Burke was close behind, finishing just one stroke back after identical rounds of 74 (+6, 148).

Finishing just four strokes back of Burke was Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) who finished +10 over par, shooting a two-day total of 152 (74-78) to tie for 31st individually. Will Pierce (Melrose, Mass.) and Nicholas Grimbilas (Strafford, N.H.) finished the scoring for the Gulls, as Pierce finished tied for 42nd (+13, 155) and Grimbilas tied for 60th (+17, 159), individually. 

The Gulls finished just four strokes off the pace second place (595) Skidmore, and behind third place Babson (596) and fourth place, and host, Williams (597). Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) won the Invitational, posting a two-day total of 589 as a team. 

BEYOND THE SCORE CARD

  • Every Gulls factored into the scoring for the weekend as each day consists of the best four scores out of the five competitors. On day one, Baker (72), Burke (74), Mahoney (74) and Pierce (79) factored into the scoring, while Burke (74), Baker (75), Grimbilas (75), and Pierce (76) scored on day two.
  • Endicott beat out eight of the nine NESCAC foes in the field.
  • Baker's day one total of 72 placed him in fourth overall, as he notched his first top-10 finish of the season.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott will travel to Portsmouth, R.I. to compete in the CCC Fall Championship Qualifier at the Green Valley Country Club. The Fall Qualifier is hosted by Roger Williams, and the top four finishing Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schools will qualify for the CCC Championship which is held in the spring.
