Endicott Finished Program Best t-7th at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Endicott men's golf team kicked off the 2022 fall season by tying for 7th in the 24 team field at the Duke Nelson Invitational. The event, hosted by Middlebury at the Ralph Myhre Golf Club, saw two Gulls post top 20 finishes in the 124 man field.

The Gulls tied for 7th with a team score of 605 over the two-day invitational, a score that tied them with Williams, and just four strokes behind Bowdoin. Endicott finished ahead of NYU (606) and Skidmore (606), who rounded out the top 10, while the top five consisted of RPI (590), Middlebury (591), Trinity (591), Hamilton (592), and Babson (598).

Leading the charge were Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.) and Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Maine), who finished tied for 12th, and tied for 17th, respectively. Burke shot an opening round of +6, 77 on Saturday before closing with an even-par 71 on Sunday. Similarly, Baker opened with a +7, 78 on day one before matching his teammate with an even 71 on Sunday.

Nicholas Grimbilas (Bedford, N.H.) and Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) tied for 42nd overall with two-day totals of +12, 154. Grimbilas opened with a round of +4, 75 on day one and finished with a +8, 79 on day two, while Mahoney reversed those scores, opening with a 79 on day one and closing with a round of 75 on day two.

Rounding out the scoring for the Gulls was Kyle Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.), who finished with a two-day total of 167.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD

  • Burke, Baker and Grimbilas all were members of the All-CCC Teams in 2021-22, with Baker and Grimbilas earning 1st Team nods, and Burke earning 2nd Team honors.
  • The tie for seventh place as a team represents the highest finish for the Gulls at the Duke Nelson Invitational in program history. The former best finish was in the fall of 2015 when Endicott finished 10th in the field of 25.
  • The rounds of 71 for Baker and Burke tied them for 7th individually on day two.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls will head to western Mass. to compete in the Williams College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The Invitational will be held at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
