Baker's Efforts Help Gulls Finish Sixth at Skidmore Fall Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Endicott golf team traveled out of region this weekend to compete in the Skidmore Fall Invitational, and returned home to the confines of the Nest with a sixth-place finish in the loaded field of 14.

The Gulls posted a two-day total of +34, 610, after team rounds of 307 and 303. Winning the tournament was Rensselaer Polytechnic (+16, 592), while Hamilton (+21, 597), University of Rochester (+26, 603), Trinity (+30, 606) and Skidmore (+32, 608) finished two through five. Endicott finished ahead of NYU, Williams, Clarkson, Springfield, Western New England, Salem State and Westfield State.

Leading the way for the Gulls was Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Maine) as the junior finished just five over par for the tournament, posting rounds of +4 76, and +1 73, for a two-day total of 149. That score was good to place him in a six-way tie for seventh in the 80-man tournament.

Joining Baker with a day-two surge was Will Pierce (Melrose, Mass.) who cut two strokes off his day one round of 77 to shoot a 75 on day two, and finish the tournament +8, 152, and in a tie for 18th.

Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.) finished just two strokes back of Pierce and in a tie for 26th with a +10, 154 performance in the tournament. Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) and Nicholas Grimbilas (Strafford, N.H.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls, finishing tied for 38th and 42nd, respectively, with two-day totals of +13, 157, and +15, 159.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD

  • Heading into the NEIGA Championships, the Gulls have won two Invitationals (Bowdoin, UNE), have posted two additional top-5 finishes, and two other top-10 finishes. Endicott has not finished lower than 7th in any invitational this fall.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls will compete one last time in the fall of 2022, as they head to Cape Cod to compete at The Captains Golf Club in Brewster, Mass. for the NEIGA Championships. The Gulls will compete on Sunday and Monday in the two-day format.
