Second Day Surge Nets Gulls Second Place Finish at USM Fall Classic

GORHAM, Maine.-  Following a day one performance in which Endicott sat in a tie for 5th place with a combined score of 311, the Gulls used a masterful day two performance to surge up the leader board and finish in sole possession of second, just one stroke behind first place UMass Dartmouth.  Endicott shot a combined 299 on day two for a combined 610, one off UMD's 609.

The 299 on the second day was the best round for any team in the Classic, beating out UMass Dartmouth's 300 on the opening day.  UMD closed with a 309 to give them the victory as Husson was right behind the Gulls in third place with 611 after rounds of 301 and 310. Southern Maine's First team finished in a distant fourth while St. Joseph's rounded out the top five of the ten team field with a score of 633.

Endicott used a consistent team performance to notch their fifth consecutive top five finish and third straight top two finish on the par 72 Gorham Country Club.  Every Gull scored in the 150's with the low score of 150 going to Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass.).  Erlichman put together rounds of 78 and 72 to finish just six shots off the medalist pace and in a tie for third place.  His six shot improvement from day one was the best in the tournament by two strokes.  Right on his heels was reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Golfer of the Week Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.).  Teal put together rounds of 75 and 76 to finish with the combined 151 to finish in a tie for fifth.

Zach Golojuch (Saco, Maine) finished third for Endicott and 11th overall with a score of 154.  Golojuch was able to take four shots off his first day score of 79 to close with a 75 on day two.  Close behind him was senior Ian Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.) who finished with a 155.  Teal pieced together rounds of 79 and 76 to finish fourth for the Gulls as fellow senior Jack Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) finished fifth for the team with a score of 159.  Carroll also improved his first day score of 81 on day two as he finished with a 78.

Endicott now looks ahead to the Division III New England Championships on Saturday and Sunday.  The tournament will be held at the Crumping Fox Golf Club.
