Austin Teal Earns CCC Golfer of the Week Honors

CCC Athletes of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott sophomore golfer Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.) was named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Golfer of the Week after leading the Gulls to two impressive performances at the Western New England Invitational, a tournament in which Teal finished first overall, and the Johnson and Wales Invitational that Endicott's five-man team won.

Teal claimed medalist honors on the par-72, 6,433-yard Veterans Golf Course with a three-under 69 to help Endicott earn a second place finish among 10 teams, including three CCC institutions. The Gulls finished three strokes off the tournament winner and host Golden Bears with a team score of 305 but Teal bested the field of 48 golfers with his under-par performance.

In the two-day Johnson & Wales Invitational at Cranston Country Club, a par-71 and 6,492-yard course, Teal and senior teammate Zach Golojuch (Saco, Maine) tied for third overall among 76 players but with complementary efforts by Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Alex Viola (Brunswick, Maine), and Jake Rand (Winthrop, Mass.), Endicott finished in first place over the 15-team field that included Western New England, Nichols, and Roger Williams.

Teals strong play and the team's tournament win at Cranston have given them momentum heading into this weekend's CCC Championship which is being held at Franconia Golf Course in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Saturday-Sunday event will award an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament which will be on May 13th-16.
