Golojuch Leads Gulls to Fourth Place Finish at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine.-  The Endicott men's golf team kicked off their 2013 with an incredibly strong performance at the Bowdoin Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club.  Out of the 13 teams and 71 golfers in the Invitational, Endicott was able to shoot a two round combined score of 634 to finish in fourth place.  The squad placed ahead of both Division I and II schools in the field as well.

The Gulls are in search of their third consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title and with it, the conference's inaugural automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.  Senior Zach Golojuch (Saco, Maine) started off his final campaign in style as he led Endicott with the team's lowest score.  Golojuch finished tied for 8th with a two round score of 157, just nine shots off the tournament's lowest score.  The senior was extremely consistent as he followed up his opening round 79 with a round of 78.

Coming off of medalist honors at the 2012-13 CCC Championship, sophomore Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.) finished in second place for the Gulls and in a tie for 11th overall as he closed with a two round score of 158.  After struggling a bit in the opening round with a score of 81, Teal sliced four shots off and closed his second round with a score of 77.  The senior Teal brother, Ian Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.), finished right on the heels of Austin with a two round score of 159.  Ian's strong first round of 78 was followed up with a closing round 81 and helped him finish in a tie for 16th.  Right behind both Teal brothers was senior Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass.).  Erlichman finished with a two round score of 160.  The seniors opening round of 84 could have discrouaged a second round comeback but the senior showed strong resolve and recorded a second round of 76, which was the lowest of all rounds by any Endicott golfer.  Senior Jack Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls as he closed with a two round score of 167 which placed him in a tie for 41st.

As a team, Endicott's 634 was just one shot off of a third place finish which Southern Maine took with a 633.  Endicott was able to finish three shots ahead of Williams and well in front of Providence and St. Anselm, the Division I & II schools in the field.  With an average team score of 649.77, Endicott started off the season strong and looks to build on this performance when they head to the Essex Country Club in Manchester, Mass. to host the CCC Championship Qualifier on September 19th.
