BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott field hockey team defeated the University of New England, 3-1, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals on Thursday night at North Field.
Abby Antonelli (Worcester, Mass.) kicked off the scoring for the Gulls at 11:37, as she was able to capitalize off of a corner opportunity. Jenna Seibold (Reading, Mass.) and Kathleen Reissfelder (Westwood, Mass.) each notched an assist on the set piece as Seibold provided the stick-stop, while Reissfelder was responsible for the corner insert.
Endicott doubled down on its lead thanks to a tally from Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) at 21:30 when she buried her own rebound.
Antonelli netted her second of the game at 36:24 via a feed from Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.).
In goal, Alexis DeMattia (Methuen, Mass.) made three saves to improve to 14-4 on the season. The Gulls defense also contributed some clutch defensive saves, with Meghan Lehouiller (Colchester, Vt.) and Maddy Young (Hingham, Mass.) registering one each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls are now 21-18 all-time against the Nor'easters.
- Endicott ended UNE's run of 10 consecutive CCC Championship appearances (2013-2022) with tonight's victory.
- Antonelli recorded her first career multi-goal game.
- Swanson's tally was her 20th of the season, which is good for second-most in the CCC.
- Endicott advances to its sixth straight CCC Championship, dating back to 2017.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 2 seed Endicott (15-4) takes on No. 1 seed Roger Williams in the CCC Championship on Saturday, November 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island at 12 PM. No. 3 seed UNE sees its 2023 season come to a close at 8-11 overall.
