BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team lost to No. 1 nationally ranked Middlebury, 4-1, in a hard-fought contest on Sunday afternoon at North Field.
Maddy Dengler (Winchester, Mass.) opened up the scoring at the 3:21 mark when she redirected a high pass from Abby Antonelli (Worcester, Mass.) near the right post for her 11th goal of the season.
From there, Middlebury scored four unanswered goals (4:46, 19:11, 21:51, 57:50) to secure the victory, despite a gritty comeback effort by the Gulls all the way until the final buzzer sounded.
In goal, Alexis DeMattia (Methuen, Mass.) shined for Endicott with a career-high 22 saves.
Her save total today ranks tied for second all-time in a single game in program history (Lizetta Solarik '14, vs. MIT, 9/26/13 | Taylor Teixeira '13, M'15, at Gordon, 9/15/12).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is only the second team this year to score first on Middlebury.
- The Panthers extended their winning streak to 20 games.
- Middlebury has not lost a contest since October 15, 2022 (L, 2-1, No. 7 Trinity).
- The Panthers are 20-0 on the road dating back to October 26, 2019 (L, 1-0, No. 6 Tufts).
