Field Hockey Prevails Over Western New England, 1-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team staved off Western New England, 1-0, on a rainy Friday night at North Field.

The game was a scoreless battle for the first 27 minutes, as both teams had chances but neither were able to take advantage.

The Gulls broke the ice in the 28th minute, as Lindsay Bruns (Belfast, Maine) got them on the board thanks to a slick feed from Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.)

That goal was enough, as it proved to be the game-winner and sole tally in the defensive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battle.

In goal, Alexis DeMattia (Methuen, Mass.) made three saves to improve to 12-4 overall.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With the win, the Gulls move to 27-6 all-time against the Golden Bears.
  • Bruns cashed in her second game-winner of the season and third of her career.
  • The Endicott defense held WNE to just three penalty corners and eight shots in the game.
  • The Blue and Green have recorded a shutout in four of their last five matches.
