Fourth ranked Endicott field hockey defeated top seed Salve Regina today at Salve's home field in Newport RI, 1-0. Previously, EC handed Salve their only conference loss during the regular season in a 5-4 overtime victory on October 23rd at Endicott College. Salve Regina finishes their season with an overall record of 14-4. EC's overall record improves to 14-6.
The Gulls and the Seahawks battled an evenly matched first half and the game was scoreless at half time. The game was scoreless until 27:14 into the second half when senior forward Jen McCormack managed to fire a shot past Salve's goalkeeper Brooke Bowley. The play developed off of one of EC's 13 offensive penalty corners. Senior forward Kim Doody took a shot from the top of the circle that was saved by Bowley, but McCormack was able to play the rebound and score the winning goal for EC. This marks McCormack's 16th goal of the season, who leads EC in goals and total points (35 total points).
EC's goalkeeper, Erin Curry, tallied seven saves and captured her sixth shut out of the season.
