EC Field Hockey snatched their first CCC victory with a 5-1 win over the University of New England at Tupper Field. The Gulls came out on fire scoring all five goals in the first half and out shooting UNE 18-3. Sophomore Caitlin Murray gave a stellar performance capturing two goals and two assists. It was Murray who netted the first two goals for EC. Her first goal was unassisted and the second was a redirected pass from freshman teammate Jen Rheaume at the 24:55 mark.
Relentless, EC's offense did not back down. The Gulls' third goal developed as junior defender Ashley Wallace crossed the ball in front of the net for senior forward Jen McCormack to redirect into the back of the cage. With five minutes left in the first half, Murray found senior forward Kim Doody open off the right post to score EC's fourth goal. Doody deflected the pass to the upper right corner of the cage past UNE's goalkeeper Krystal Wysocki. Capitalizing on an offensive penalty corner, Wallace scored EC's fifth and final goal on an assist from Murray with 2:29 left in the half.
EC continued to dominate the second half out shooting UNE 22-8, however the Nor'easters where able score one goal on the Gulls' defense. Twelve minutes into the second half freshman forward Lisa Baillargeon scored UNE's lone goal on EC goalkeeper Erin Curry. Curry tallied ten saves for the Gulls.
EC improves their record to 4-4 and 1-1 within the CCC. The Gulls will face St. Joseph's College for a non-conference match up September 28th in Standish ME.
