Gulls pick up pair of wins against Northeastern and BU
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College men’s hockey team secured a pair of wins this weekend with a 5-4 victory over Northeastern University on Friday and following that up with a 4-0 defeat of the Boston Red Dogs on Saturday night in Hamilton, Mass. The Gulls improved to 3-2 this season and 1-0 in the NECHA with the victory over Northeastern.

Against the Huskies, the Gulls trailed early in the game as Northeastern’s Zach Croy gave the Huskies an early 1-0 lead on passes from Mike Gilberg and Andrea Pasquale. Gilberg found Pasquale for a goal nearly eight minutes later to push the Northeastern lead to 2-0. Endicott responded with a goal of their own near the end of the first period as \#Andrew Lamont\# (Kennebunk, Maine) found the back of the net on passes from \#Kevin Bunting\# (Plantsville, Conn.) and \#Rob DiNicola\# (Wolcott, Conn.).

Northeastern stretched their lead to 3-1 at the 12:53 mark of the second period on a Noah Mellen tally. The Gulls were quick to respond as a mere 30 seconds later, \#Gregory Szkop\# (New Britain, Conn.) took a \#Matthew Zimmerman\# (South Glastonbury, Conn.) feed to cut the Gulls’ deficit to one. \#Brett Erickson\# (Leominster, Mass.) was also credited with an assist on the play. Endicott would tack on two more goals in the frame to take the lead, 4-3, off the sticks of \#Dan Giddings\# (North Reading, Mass.) and \#Jeffrey Breault\# (Blackstone, Mass.).

Bunting netted an insurance goal nearly two minutes into the third period for a 5-3 Endicott lead. The goal would come in handy as Northeastern’s Carlson netted his first goal of the game with less than 10 minutes to play. Endicott would hang on, however, for their first NECHA win of the season.

Endicott’s \#Mark Airoldi\# (Kennebunk, Maine) picked up the win by making 44 saves on 48 shots. Rory Condron suffered the setback for the Huskies, stopping 36 attemps.

On Saturday, the Gulls faced off against the Boston Red Dogs, Boston University’s club team. Four different players scored to give Endicott the 4-0 victory.

The Gulls took an early 1-0 lead in the first period as DiNicola scored off passes from Szkop and Bunting. Following a quiet second frame, the Gulls scored three, third period goals to secure the win. \#Brett Erickson\#, \#Kevin Bunting\#, and \#Jarod Garceau\# (Guilford, Conn.) each scored for the home team.

\#Matt Murray\# (Billerica, Mass.) stopped 32 shots en route to the victory. The Red Dogs’ JJ Ortega stopped 44 shots in the setback.

\#Rob DiNicola\# paced the Gulls during the weekend with a goal and four assists in two games. \#Kevin Bunting\# chipped in with two goals and two assists while captain \#Brett Erickson\# tallied one score and handed out three helpers.

The Blue and Green return to the ice on Saturday as the Gulls host the University of New Hampshire for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Hamilton, Mass.
