Women's Tennis Claims Player of the Year and Coach of the Year Honors from CCC

2014 All-CCC Women's Tennis Teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior captain Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and third-year head coach Jeremy Howard headline the 2014 All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Tennis Teams as Heacox has been named Player of the Year and Howard Coach of the Year for a Gulls squad that went undefeated in conference play during the regular season and earned the top seed for this week's CCC Tournament.

Heacox, an All-CCC Singles and Doubles player for Endicott in each of her four collegiate seasons, had a combined 16-5 record on both the #1 singles and #1 doubles courts this fall. She went 8-3 (6-1 CCC) in singles and 8-2 (6-1 CCC) in doubles action with freshman partner Dayna Reilly (Swanseas, Mass.). Heacox was also recognized as an All-CCC First Team Singles player for the second time in her career while she and Reilly were among three doubles teams conference-wide to earn All-CCC First Team Doubles.

Jeremy Howard, two-time CCC
Coach of the Year

In three seasons, Howard has coached the Blue and Green to a 44-10 (.815) overall record and a 22-2 (.917) mark in CCC matches, two CCC titles, and two NCAA Second Round appearances. In 2014, shuffling a lineup that dealt with injuries, Howard, now a two-time CCC Coach of the Year, positioned Endicott to be the #1 seed in the CCC Tournament for the first time with their sights set on a fourth-straight conference championship.

Joining Heacox on the All-CCC Singles First Team is fellow senior captain Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) who also has earned all-conference honors for her singles and doubles play in each of the past four seasons. Egbert went undefeated in her five CCC singles matches and 6-2 overall mainly from the #2 flight. Despite going 3-2 (2-1 CCC) in limited action, Egbert and the third senior captain Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) collected an All-CCC Honorable Mention Doubles award after teaming up for Second Team honors in 2012 and 2013.

Endicott also saw Reilly and junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) earn a spot on the All-CCC Honorable Mention Singles team. Reilly's rookie campaign resulted in a 5-4 (4-2 CCC) record across the second, third, and fourth singles positions. Newman also showed versatility, playing in four different singles positions, and excelled with a 9-2 (7-0 CCC) record. Reilly and Newman were the only members of the Endicott women's tennis team to win weekly honors from the conference this season with Reilly taking home two Rookie of the Week awards and Newman claiming Player of the Week honors after clinching a critical regular season win over Nichols.

Endicott, the CCC's #1 seed for this week's CCC Tournament, has earned a bye through to the semifinal round where they will await the winner of #4 Gordon versus #5 Salve Regina. That match will be played on Thursday, October 9th at a time to be announced.
