Women's Tennis Win Streak Snapped at Home to Undefeated Babson

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team took on an undefeated Babson squad on Sunday afternoon and saw their six-match unbeaten streak come to an end as the Beavers defeated the Gulls 8-1. Babson took two out of three doubles matches before sweeping singles action on the road.

Endicott (7-2, 5-0 CCC) next plays on Thursday, September 25th at home against NEWMAC opponent Emerson starting at 3:30 pm. In their last meeting on October 13th, 2012, Endicott edged the Lions 5-4 in their final regular season match before the conference tournament. Last season's regular season contest was postponed and never rescheduled.

Babson (7-0, 3-0 NEWMAC) returns to their conference schedule on Tuesday, September 23rd with a road match at MIT starting at 4:00 pm.

The Gulls managed to grab a victory at #2 doubles as senior captain Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) battled Babson's duo of senior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) and junior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) to an 8-5 win. The Beavers, however, captured wins at the #1 and #3 doubles flights to take a 2-1 team lead going into singles play. At the top position, senior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) and first-year Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) won 8-2 and at #3 doubles, first-year teammates Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) took home an 8-4 win over Endicott sophomore Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and freshman Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.).

Babson's singles lineup racked up six wins with each flight being decided in straight sets. First-year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) finished first at the #6 singles position with a 6-0, 6-0. Paolino at the #5 spot won 6-1, 6-2 next followed by Freeman, 6-0, 6-2 over Heacox at the top singles position, and Quenard at #3 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph. The #2 and #4 singles players, Akgul and Ferraro, finished off the Gulls as Akgul won 6-2, 6-1 over Endicott senior Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) and Ferraro handled junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) 6-0, 6-2.
