Endicott Shuts Down Wentworth for Sixth Straight Win

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team won their sixth straight match on Saturday after defeating CCC opponent Wentworth 9-0 at the Beren Tennis Center on the campus of Harvard University. The Gulls have gone undefeated in each of the conference matches this season and currently sit atop the league standings with a 7-1 (5-0 CCC) record.

Endicott faces a challenging non-conference opponent in Babson (6-0, 3-0 NEWMAC) on Sunday, September 21st at 12:00 pm on their home courts. The Gulls are 0-2 all-time against Babson including a 7-2 road loss in 2013.

Endicott swept doubles play against Wentworth on Saturday behind two shutout efforts from #1 doubles duo Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) as well as #2 doubles team Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine). The #3 doubles flight saw Gulls sophomore Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and freshman Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) handle their Leopards opposition by a score of 8-2.

With the Gulls leading the overall match 3-0 after doubles, Endicott carried that momentum into singles play with five of the six matches finishing in straight sets. Junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) played her #3 singles opponent, Wentworth's Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.), into a third-set tiebreaker. After losing the opening set 6-3, Newman rallied to take the second set 6-3 and in a "first to 10" third set scenario, Newman controlled the play to a 10-1 triumph.

Heacox, Reilly, junior Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.), and sophomores Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) and Skyelar MacLeod (Portsmouth, R.I.) all won their singles matches in straight sets.
