Endicott with Strong Showing at NEWITT Tournament

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Following their fourth consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship victory last week, the Endicott women's tennis team had a strong showing at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) by defeat NESCAC foe 2-1 on Friday before falling to Babson 2-1 in the second round on Saturday.

Endicott (12-2) will now be off until the spring when the Blue and Green will compete in several matches prior to the start of the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament in early May.

Match One: Endicott 2, Trinity (Conn.) 1

Senior captain Natalie Egbert won her #2 singles match of Bantams senior Carolyn Zimmer (Vero Beach, Fla.) in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 and the doubles duo of senior captain Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) defeated Trinity opponents Zimmer and freshman Ania Aliev (Needham, Mass.) en route to a 2-1 team victory in the NEWITT first round.

Heacox suffered a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) loss in #1 singles to Aliev but Endicott advanced on to the second day of action at NEWITT.

Match Two: Babson 2, Endicott 1

For the second day in-a-row at NEWITT, Egbert won her #2 singles match with a 6-4, 4-2 (retired) win over sophomore Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.). Her effort was not enough to catapult Endicott into the next round as the Beavers won #1 singles and doubles play over the Gulls.

Babson first year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) beat Heacox in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 and the combination of Heacox and Reilly lost to Foster and Weick 8-4 as Endicott was ousted from further NEWITT competition.
