If you’re a current Endicott student-athlete and balancing school work, internship, practice, and games, you’re probably wondering what your post-graduation life will be like and if all the hard work you’re putting now is going to be worth it. Maybe you’re a prospective student-athlete in high school and thinking about whether Endicott is the right place for you or maybe you’re an alumnus of the College interested to find out what classmates are up to. Whatever your angle is, we’ve got insight into the whereabouts and happenings of some of our favorite Endicott student-athlete alumni.

This week we got in touch with former women's soccer star Caitlyn Flynn who over the course of her standout four-year career in the Blue and Green accumulated countless accolades, became one of the program's greatest offensive weapons, and did her part in securing three Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) titles. Flynn's experience off the field, however, as a interior design major in both her undergraduate and graduate studies as well as three internships were integral factors in leading to her post-Endicott success in life.

Athletically, Flynn was a force and currently stands as the program's all-time leader in assists (31), second in game-winning goals (20), fourth in points (127), and fourth in goals scored (48). Her excellence on the pitch resulted in being named CCC Player of the Year twice (2008-09) and a three-time All-CCC First Team Forward. She earned All-Region recognition three times (2007-09) including NSCAA All-New England nods in 2008 and 2009. Endicott hoisted the CCC Championship trophy three times (2006-07, 2009) during her tenure and made the NCAA Tournament all four seasons, earninn the program's first-ever at-large selection in 2008. In 2006, Flynn and her Endicott teammates made their deepest NCAA postseason run by winning games over Union and Worcester State, in a shootout, to reach the NCAA Sectionals. Against Worcester State in the second round that year, Flynn scored in the second half and in the shootout to push the Gulls into a match up with Amherst who they would fall to 1-0.

How did your major, classes, professors, and education at Endicott contribute to your post-graduation career?

Looking back upon my arrival at Endicott  and enrollment in the Interior Design program, I am so grateful for the experience! In addition to academics, being able to participate and be a part of the athletic program with the women’s soccer team really rounded out my college environment. Being able to be disciplined enough to honor commitments to both a team and an extremely time consuming major has helped me manage my time and stay focused. The range of design courses gave me the proficiency and technical tools to explore my creativity and portray ideas in a well thought out format necessary for success. I love being able to produce a design concept that can then be put into motion for a client! I can truly say that I fully enjoyed my undergraduate and graduate years within both the interior design and women’s soccer program. It has given me the opportunity and confidence to pursue the dream of owning my own design firm.

What internships did you participate in at Endicott?

My two 120-hour internships were completed at Maggie Wood Design inJamesport, N.Y. and Hildreth's Home Goods in Southampton, N.Y. My senior year internship was completed at Winter Street Architects in Salem, Mass.

How did your internships at Endicott contribute to your post-graduation career?

My internship really bridged the gap between hypothetical projects and real world experience. It allowed me to experiment with potential work environments and helped me to see where I really felt like I could see myself working. Although my senior internship was at an architecture firm where I expanded on technical skills, it clarified that I wanted to practice mainly residential design.

Caitlyn Flynn and Endicott women's soccer went 69-18-5 with three CCC titles from 2006-09.

What were some of your most memorable experiences as a student-athlete at Endicott?

What I enjoyed most about being a student-athlete was the culture of being part of a team, I enjoyed the intensity of preseason and soccer was my outlet throughout school. I loved the hype before an important game (usually Roger Williams), or any game for that matter. I've always been terrible at recalling events during individual games, but one of my most memorable experiences had to be playing Messiah my senior year in the NCAA tournament, the last and toughest game during my time playing at Endicott. Some others would have to be making it to the "Sweet 16" during my freshman season in 2006, and winning multiple CCC championships.

Are you still playing your sport either competitively or recreationally? If so, in what capacity?

Yes, I only play recreationally currently. Although once my college playing days were over, I played for the Boston Aztec WPSL team, which was the reserve team to the then-Women’s Professional Soccer’s Boston Breakers.

Do you maintain contact with Endicott or athletic department (i.e. communication with former coach, Alumni Association, Young Alumni)? If so, how are you still involved with Endicott?

I still keep in contact with Jodi, as well as several players from my time on the team. I participate in the annual Women's soccer alumni game, as well as attend some of the home games at Endicott. At North Fork Design Co. we have hosted two interns via the internship program at Endicott. We currently have someone completing their senior internship with our firm.

Do you have any additional post-graduation accomplishments you would like to highlight?

I would have to say my biggest accomplishment after graduation was starting North Fork Design Co., with my friend and Endicott alum Elyse Parkhurst, and being able to continue to grow the business. I currently live in Marblehead with my dog, Dax. Since starting NFDCo., the business has been selected to participate in two Designer Showhouses, complete projects in both the Boston area and New York, as well as be published in North Shore Magazine, Coastal Home Magazine, House Magazine, and Boston Home Magazine.
