CCC SEMIFINALS: Endicott Tops Gordon, 5-1

MANCHESTER, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team bested crosstown rival Gordon, 5-1, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament semifinal round on Wednesday evening at the Manchester Athletic Club.

Per CCC Tournament rules, tonight's match was played to decision.

Endicott came out of doubles play with a 2-1 advantage thanks to the No. 2 pairing of Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.)/Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.), 8-1, and the No. 3 squad featuring Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.)/Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.), 8-3.

Meanwhile, in singles, Henry made quick work of her opponent at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-0) to give the Gulls a 3-1 lead in the match.

From there, Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2, while Hoover closed out the match victory with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 1.

"We did a nice job focusing on the controllables today--no excuses from anyone," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We'll enjoy this one and we'll be ready to go for Saturday."

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (8-0) will play the winner of Nichols and Roger Williams in the CCC Championship on Saturday, May 8. Roger Williams is scheduled to host Nichols tomorrow at 4 PM.

Gordon sees its 2021 season come to a close at 5-4 overall.
