BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott women's soccer defender Sarah Person (Holden, Mass.) was selected to play in the 2013 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl game on Saturday, December 7th along with 21 other top student-athletes from across the region in NCAA Division III. Person finished in a three-way tie with defenders from Middlebury and Springfield as the top vote-getters at her position.
Person joins former Endicott teammates Kayla Corbett '11, Colleen Pepin '12, Caitlin Peters '13, and Christine Silva '13 as NEWISA Senior Bowl honorees from the past four seasons.
Person was an integral part of Endicott's return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship glory with their first title since the 2009 season, success in the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 First Round victory over Scranton, and 16-6-2 overall record, the seventh time in nine seasons under head coach Jodi Kenyon that the team has finished with at least 15 victories.
The Endicott defense led the CCC with a 0.685 goals against average, allowing the fewest goals in the league with 17. The team turned in a dominated stretch of 11 matches from October 12th through the end of the season where the defense allowed only four goals. Endicott went 9-1-1 which included a eight-match winning streak, a win over Gordon via penalty kicks in the CCC Championship, and a 1-0 win over Scranton in the NCAA First Round. The most goals allowed came in their Second Round 2-1 loss to NCAA Semifinalist Middlebury.
Person has already been recognized for her abilities both on and off the pitch this season as she was named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an All-CCC First Team Defender, and a CCC Defensive Player of the Week award. Along with her stellar defense and two assists in 2013, Person maintained high academic standing with a 3.82 grade point average as an elementary education major.
