Softball sweeps their third day of games; improve to 4-2 overall
Kissimmee, Fla. – The Endicott softball team earned two victories at one their third of competition at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida, improving to 4-2 with wins over the University of Dubuque and Utica to improve to 4-2 overall.

Game One – Endicott 17, Dubuque 2 (5 inn.)

Ten different Endicott players recorded hits and the Gulls offensive overall produced 17 runs in a blowout win over the University of Dubuque 17-2 in early morning spring softball action Tuesday.

Freshman Jennie Lacolla (Stoneham, Mass.) enjoyed a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with five RBI to lead the Gulls high-powered offense against Dubuque. Fellow newcomer and starting pitcher Danielle LaRocque (Averill Park, N.Y.) also had a solid game with three RBI as the Blue and Green totaled 15 hits as a team. Outfielder Byrne Katz (Trumbull, Conn.) knocked in two runs in the win as well.

On the mound, LaRocque held the Dubuque offense at bay with five innings of work, allowing just two runs while striking out one en route to a win.

Endicott scored 12 runs in the first inning, another five in the third before holding on for the win.

Game Two – Endicott 7, Utica 6

In game two of the day, the Blue and Green scored all seven of their runs in the first three innings and left Utica’s tying run on third base in a 7-6 victory.

As the designated player, Lacolla was once again a factor going 2-for-3 at the dish with three RBI on a two-RBI single in the first and a sacrifice fly in the third to lead the Gulls offense.

Sophomore Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.), who has batted .571 in the first six games of the season, had four hits in five trips to the plate with two runs scored in the win. The game-winning run was scored by Nicole Devlin (Dudley, Mass.) who crossed the plate on an error by the third baseman in the third inning.

Senior pitcher Jenna Bortolotti (Milton, Mass.) earned the win while hurling 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, despite giving up five runs on 11 hits in the game. Freshman Nell O’Connor (Harwich, Mass.) came on in relief to earn the save in 1 1/3 innings pitched.

Endicott will look to win their second game of the spring at 9:00 am against Kean before taking on Montclair State 11:00 am tomorrow in Kissimmee.
