Magee erupts for 34 points, 12 rebounds in 78-60 Gulls win over Emmanuel



BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott men's basketball will head into the winter break 5-3 (1-1 CCC) following a 78-60 non-conference win over Emmanuel on Tuesday evening.  Sophomore Lachlan Magee (Melbourne, Australia) scored a career-high 34 points to go along with 12 rebounds as the Gulls dropped the Saints to 4-5 overall. 

Magee scored 17 points in each half, doing the majority of his damage from the free throw line late in the second half by going 9-of-11.  In the first half, Magee hit 7-of-10 from the floor including 3-of-4 three-point attempts.  The sophomore now leads the team with an average of 16.3 points per game with a 45.8 3FG% (11-of-24) from beyond the arc.  Magee also had four assists and two steals in the game. 

Junior guard Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) recorded a team-high six steals against the Saints and added 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and four assists.  Senior big man Erik Callo (Southington, Conn.) had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Gulls in just 17 minutes on the court.

Andre Makris (Southbury, Conn.), Callo and Aaron Karkow (Uncasville, Conn.) brought a defensive presence for the Blue and Green in this game, combining for nine blocks against Emmanuel.  Makris led with four while Callo and Karkow swatted three and two shots, respectively.  

For the Saints, four player scored in double figures with senior forward Isaiah Duke (Albany, N.Y.) leading with 15 points on 6-of-19 from the field.  Duke grabbed 13 rebounds, eight of which were offensive to complete the double-double and added three assists, a block and a steal.

Up 16-14 at the 12:18 mark of the first half, Endicott raced out to a 14-point lead following a 15-2 run over a five minute span to give the Gulls a 31-17 advantage.  Endicott stretched their lead to as large as 20 points with 1:01 remaining in the half after a three-point make by the Saints and a free throw by Greene, the Blue and Green went into halftime with a 44-26 lead. 

In the second half, Endicott pushed their lead back over 20 points early in the stanza before Emmanuel attempted to get back in the game by cutting the Gulls lead down to eight points with 8:45 to go.  With Emmanuel trailing 62-54 with 6:25 left in regulation, Endicott scored 15 of the next 17 points in the game to take commanding 21-point lead at 77-56.  The Gulls and Saints played through the final 2:09 of the game as Endicott went on to win 78-60 over their GNAC rival. 

Endicott held a significant advantage in points scored in the paint, 34-16, and fast-break points, 10-4, while Emmanuel was able to convert 18 Gulls turnovers into 18 points.  The Saints also got 17 points off their bench. 

Endicott won't be in action again until Wednesday, January 4th when they take on North Shore foe Salem State in MacDonald Gymnasium at 7:00 pm.
