2011 CCC Athletes of the Week Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --
Endicott College freshman forward Andre Makris (Southbury, Conn.) has already had an impressive start to his college career and is earning accolades for his play early this season. Makris was named the first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s basketball Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday morning by the conference office.

Makris helped the Gulls to a 2-1 week to open up their 2011-12 campaign, including an impressive college debut and a weekend performance that saw him named to the All-Tournament Team of the North Shore Collegiate Tip-Off Tournament.

The first year forward scored 29 points to go with three rebounds and three blocks in his first collegiate action, a tough 91-88 loss to St. Joseph (Vt.) at MacDonald Gymnasium last Tuesday night. The 29-point performance was the most points scored by an Endicott freshman in his collegiate debut.

Over the weekend, Makris contributed twelve points and eleven rebounds in the Gull’s 102-53 rout of Maine-Augusta in the opening round of the Tip-Off tourney, hosted by Endicott. In Saturday’s championship game, makris added 15 points and nine boards as the Gulls edged MCLA 77-75. The talented newcomer averaged 18.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over three games.

The Gulls will play their final game before the Thanksgiving break this afternoon when they travel to Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. The tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
