McCarthy's Two Goals Lead Endicott To 4-2 Victory Over UNE

Kristen McCarthy and Samantha Brown high-five.

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Endicott field hockey team traveled to the University of New England on Tuesday evening and came away with a 4-2 victory to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Gulls got on the board first just three minutes into the contest when Julie Champigny (Acton, Mass.) scooped up a rebounded shot and slipped the ball past Nor'easter netminder, Liz Sargent (South Burlington, Vt.)

UNE responded seven minutes later with a tally from Julia Steeves (Skowhegan, Maine) and then the Nor'easters took a 2-1 lead at the 25:04 mark when Nicole Grady (Oxford, Mass.) found the back of the net.

Endicott's offense picked up the pace in the closing minutes of the half which paid off as Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.) netted her tenth goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2.

Both teams came out in the second half looking to break the tie and at the 51:26 mark, McCarthy did just that with her second tally of the contest.

The Gulls pulled away with a 4-2 lead eight minutes later when Addi Williams (Pittsfield, Maine) deflected a pass from Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.) off a corner opportunity.

Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) recorded six saves in net to secure the victory.
