BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott right-handed pitcher Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.) has received National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III National Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the organization earlier today.
Schwede is the first student-athlete in program history to earn a weekly award from the NCBWA, which dates back as far as 2003.
Meanwhile, last week for the Gulls, Schwede threw nine innings of shutout ball on Sunday (March 8) as Endicott defeated Bates, 7-0, in non-conference action. The first-year hurler scattered eight hits and walked none, while striking out three. He also sat down the Bobcats in order on three occasions.
For his efforts, Schwede earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Pitcher and Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time in his career.
