Baseball Ends the Season Ranked #2 in New England

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The final rankings of the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) were released on Tuesday afternoon and Endicott has finished the year as the #2 team in New England.

Endicott (35-14) set a program record for wins in a season, won their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title since 2006 and reached the final game of the NCAA Division III New England Regional Tournament. The #2 ranking is the highest spot that an Endicott baseball team has attained.

The Gulls received 35 points and were ranked behind only New England champions University of Southern Maine, who received all five first-place votes and finished with 40 points after putting together a 42-8 season en route to the College World Series.

Endicott finished ranked ahead of five teams that they met this year, including #3 Wheaton (32-12), who they defeated 3-2 in extra innings in Day Two of the NCAA Division III New England Regional. The Lyons were followed by CCC rival Western New England (34-13). After Endicott defeated the Golden Bears 12-3 in the CCC title game, Western New England reached the loser's bracket championship game in Harwich before being eliminated by Southern Maine.

Amherst (27-13), champions of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) took the #5 spot in the poll, followed by Saint Joseph's Maine (31-14), who Endicott walked off against with a 4-3 victory in each team's opening game of the 2013 NCAA Regional.

Eastern Connecticut (30-13-1), the only team on the list that the Gulls did not meet this year were ranked #7, with Suffolk (29-14) earning the eighth and final spot in the poll. Endicott defeated the Rams 9-7 in Quincy, Mass. earlier this year.
