Women's Soccer Blanks Salve Regina 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's soccer team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Salve Regina 3-0 on Tuesday evening, to improve to 6-3-2 overall and 4-1-0 in CCC play. Salve Regina falls to 6-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in CCC play after the setback.

Despite the Gulls holding a 9-1 advantage in shots in the first half, the score remained tied at 0-0 at the break. Of Endicott's nine shots, three were on goal, causing Salve Regina's keeper Georgia Drake (Plymouth, Mass.) to make three saves.

Endicott would open up the offense in the second half, finishing the final 45 minutes of play with 12 shots, eight of which were on goal. Of those eight shots on goal, three made it past the keeper to give the Gulls the 3-0 win.

Scoring the first just 27 seconds into the second half was Jaymie Caponigro (Swampscott, Mass.) after she one-timed a through ball down the right side of the box past the Seahawk keeper to give the home team the 1-0 edge. The well played pass ball was notched through by Lindsey Papa (Andover, Mass.) for her first career assist.

Caponigro would strike again just over eight minutes later when Hannah Lederman (Natick, Mass.) headed a cross into the post which then ricocheted directly towards Caponigro. The midfielder struck quickly, snapping it out of the air and into the back of the net for her fourth of the season. The assist was Lederman's second of the season and fourth of her career.

The final tally came in the 70th minute when graduate student Megan Smith (Glastonbury, Conn.) unleashed a strike from roughly 30 yards out into the upper corner of the from for her first collegiate goal. Lederman was again credited with the assist on the play.
