Endicott and Wheaton Battle to 3-3 2OT Draw

Members of the women's soccer team celebrate a goal against Wheaton on Wednesday night.

BEVERLY, Mass. - In a back and forth affair that saw the two teams combine for 33 total shots in the match, the Endicott women's soccer team and Wheaton battled to a 3-3 draw through two overtime periods. With the draw, Endicott is now 3-2-2, while Wheaton moves to 5-2-2.

The Gulls got the scoring underway early in the first half, scoring in the eighth minute when Madeline Mucher (Andover, Mass.) received a Jaymie Caponigro (Swampscott, Mass.) through ball that split the Wheaton backline. Mucher was able to fire a shot on net from the left side that glanced off the keeper and found the back of the net, giving Endicott the 1-0 advantage.

Endicott would add to that lead less than six minutes later when Riley Rischitelli (North Brookfield, Mass.) ran onto a perfectly placed pass by Chloe Waldron (Harwinton, Conn.), and turned the keeper around before shooting low near post to grow the lead to 2-0.

The Lyons would strike for their first goal of the match in the 35th minute, cutting the Endicott lead to 2-1, a score which would hold until halftime.

The Blue and Green would add another on the scoreboard in the 61st minute when Caponigro would score off a free kick from 30 yards out to give Endicott the 3-1 lead.

Wheaton would then rally to score their second goal just three minutes later, before scoring the game-tying goal with seven seconds left in regulation. That goal would knot the score at 3-3 after 90 minutes of play.

Despite seven total shots in the two overtime periods, five of which came in the first 10 minute period, the Gulls couldn't convert the game-winner, ending the match in a 3-3 draw after 110 minutes of play.
