NCAA TOURNAMENT: Field Hockey Falls to No. 1 Nationally Ranked Middlebury, 5-1

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Endicott field hockey team fell to No. 1 nationally ranked and three-time defending NCAA Divison III National Champion Middlebury College, 5-1, on Saturday morning in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Kohn Field. 

Middlebury came out hot scoring five consecutive tallies before Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.) was able to put the Gulls on the board in the third period (39:16). 

Claire Boncek (Hamden, Conn.) and Rachael Lemay (Westminster, Mass.) recorded defensive saves during their performance in the back end for Endicott. 

Meanwhile, Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) collected 14 saves in the loss (12-7 overall). 

BEYOND THE BOX

  • The Gulls are 0-1 in the all-time series against the Panthers. 
  • This is Endicott's eighth season overall registering 14 or more wins (14-7).
  • Endicott has made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in its last three straight seasons (program record).  
  • Poulin capped her 2021 campaign with 17 goals, pushing her total to 40 over the course of her collegiate career.  

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott's 2021 season comes to a close at 14-7. No. 1 Middlebury (19-0) advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner No. 14 SUNY New Paltz (17-2) and No. 7 Tufts University (14-4) on Sunday, November 14 at 1 PM.
