No. 16 MIT Edges Endicott, 2-1

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott field hockey team lost to No. 16 nationally ranked MIT, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Jack Barry Field. 

Following a strong defensive effort by both squads in the first quarter, the Engineers were able to secure a 1-0 lead at the 26:17 mark after Jesse Jin netted her first collegiate goal following a penalty corner. 

From there, Sydney Poulin's (Watertown, Mass.) second goal of the season came in clutch fashion when she scored off a rebound via a penalty corner in the fourth quarter (51:57) to tie the game at one apiece. 

After the Gulls' goal, MIT netted another one of its own (Liberty Ladd from Paige Forester) with just 2:23 remaining in regulation to secure the eventual 2-1 victory.

Endicott goalie Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) finished her night with seven saves in her first loss of the year (1-1).

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Prior to tonight, Endicott had won the last two meetings versus MIT (9/11/18, 6-0 vs. No.13 MIT | 9/10/19, 3-1).
  • This is the fifth time Endicott has played MIT when the Engineers have been nationally ranked.
  • MIT is ranked No. 16 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) preseason poll
  • Tonight's game featured 21 shots combined by both teams, 14 of which came in the 4th quarter. 
  • Poulin netted her 25th career goal in the contest. 
  • Endicott is also receiving votes in the NFHCA preseason poll.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-1) travels to Trinity (Conn.) to take on the Bantams (1-0) on Sunday, September 12 at 1 PM. MIT (2-1) hosts Husson University this Saturday at 1 PM.
