BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College came into Thursday night's volleyball match with non-conference Rhode Island College riding a 19-game home unbeaten streak that spanned almost two seasons.
That all changed last night at McDonald Gymnasium as RIC dispatched Endicott College, 3-1, halting EC's streak that began in 2003.
The loss also snapped the Gulls seven-game winning streak and improved RIC to 14-8 overall (3-2 Little East Conference). RIC, which has now won seven of its last eight contests, dropped the first game, 30-26, but won three straight (30-24, 30-20, 30-28) to become the first team to win at McDonald Gym since Western Connecticut beat Endicott on November 1, 2003.
The Gulls fell to 14-9 overall (5-1 CCC) but received strong net play from junior middle hitter Sara Moore (Guilford, CT/Guilford), who had 11 kills, two blocks and scored 14.5 points. Sophomore setter Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) handed out 33 assists, had six kills and added 14 digs, while freshman libero Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) chipped in a team-high 19 digs and one ace.
Endicott hosts Western New England College and Wheaton on Homecoming Day Saturday (1:00/5:00 pm).
