BRISTOL, RI -- Endicott College went 1-1 Saturday in a Commonwealth Coast Conference tri-match at Roger Williams University.
The Gulls (7-2, 1-1 CCC) blanked Roger Williams, 3-0, winning 32-30, 30-21 and 30-28 but fell, 3-1, to Colby-Sawyer, which was the favorite to win the CCC in the preseason coaches' poll. Endicott lost the first game to the Chargers (30-24) and rebounded to win the second game (35-33) before bowing out in the final two matches by the score of 30-21.
Senior outside hitter Patty Mikan (Shelton, CT/St. Joseph's) and junior middle hitter Sara Moore (Guilford, CT/Guilford) led the attack versus the Hawks
Mikan had nine kills while Moore added nine kills and five blocks. Freshman middle hitter Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) chipped in eight kills and five blocks and sophomore setter Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) handed out 29 assists.
Defensively, senior outside hitter Killeen Ross (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) dug up 14 balls and freshman libero Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) had 13 digs.
Mikan (14 kills) and Moore (13 kills) again paved the way for the Gulls in the second contest. Ross added 12 kills and 17 digs, Hall passed out 43 assists and four aces and Nolan (3 aces) led Endicott with 24 digs.
The Gulls travel to Plymouth State University Tuesday in a non-conference match at 6:00 p.m.
