SENIOR SEND-OFF: Endicott Women's Track And Field Program

(The goal of our Senior Send-Off articles is to highlight teams and student-athletes who did not get to finish their season of competition and/or have their respective Senior Day games/events happen. We also hope that these stories serve as a positive light to anyone who reads them during these trying times.)

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's track and field team was able to compete in four events before the NCAA's decision to cancel all remaining winter and spring championships due to COVID-19.

The Gulls were led by four seniors Hannah Buckley (Milford, Conn.)Jamie Budge (Old Tappan, N.J.), Madeline Hefferan (Norwalk, Conn.), and Laura Pomeroy (Windham, N.H.). These four seniors will forever have an impact on the program athletically and academically. Here's what women's track and field head coach Spencer Lange had to say about the entire senior class as a group and as individuals.

2020 Senior Class

"I use the term 'balance' frequently with this group. With a new program, facing any individual or team challenges, and finding ways to do things better, it is so important to find a balance between having fun, working hard, and simply finding a way. This group has done that so well. Times when you think the ship might be steering too much in one direction, this group has the ability to make the corrections and keep everything moving forward. With a brand new program, everyone is essentially put in a position of leadership. Without the disparity of classes and an established culture, it's their story to write. I thought this was a very unique way for this group to grow as individuals and have the confidence to learn how to navigate the unknown. This class will be greatly missed, but they have left their mark."

Hannah Buckley

"If you know Hannah, you know she will make you laugh. Joining the team in her sophomore year when we added the program was a special experience for her. Being a team made up of primarily freshmen, Hannah was, by nature, put in a position of leadership. Her ability to balance her fun, carefree nature, with the passion of being a good teammate and constantly improving as an athlete allowed her to maximize her time on this team. Hannah always came through to lighten the mood if the team was stressed or tired."

Jamie Budge

"Jamie will be missed after graduating in just three years. This speaks volumes to her work ethic and standards she sets for herself. By having commitments in areas other than academics and athletics, her communication and desire to excel in all areas were prominent throughout her time here. She was a true leader coming in as part of our first recruiting class for the program. Her intense focus and attention to details were seamlessly balanced by her ability to make her teammates laugh."

Madeline Hefferan

"Madeline joined our program during her junior year and was a very positive addition. While her senior season was cut short, she cared for her teammates and always worked to set an example for the younger student-athletes. Madeline never shied away from pushing herself and fighting through any challenges while recovering from any injuries."

Laura Pomeroy

"Laura's growth over the last four years has been special to see. We didn't have an official track program until her sophomore year, so she has been a big part of the development of this program. While setbacks with injuries are taxing both physically and mentally, Laura came back stronger each time. She had great teammates to support her through her journey and was able to be running her best during her senior year. Laura displayed a true commitment to our program and always sought ways to improve. Her strength in the classroom has also led her to a fantastic professional opportunity in which she will excel."
