BEVERLY, MA - Nicole Breting (Woonsocket, RI/Mount St. Charles) won her No. 1 singles match and then teamed-up with Lori Wardner (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) to take the No. 1 doubles contest, as the Endicott Gulls downed Plymouth State University, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, MA.
Breting opened competition by defeating Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, NH/Timberlane), 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. The Gulls would suffer only two singles losses on the day as Plymouth State's Meghan Rodier (Francestown, NH/ConVal) was able to get by Endicott's Lori Wardner, 6-2, 7-5, and the Panthers' Buffy Garland (Freedom, NH/Kennett) beat the Gulls Melissa Delsole by forfeiture. Kate Fiske (Westerly, RI/Westerly), Jenna Carme (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield) and Geneive Sherman were all victorious for the Blue and Green.
The Gulls swept their way through the doubles portion of the afternoon as Endicott went 3-0 in the teamed competition. Breting and Wardner, Fiske and Carme, and Alyson Boehm (Lowell, MA/Lowell) all walked away with doubles victories.
Endicott (2-0, 0-0 TCCC) will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they open TCCC play with Conference foe Nichols College. Action is set to begin at 4:00 PM in Dudley, Massachusetts.
