BEVERLY, Mass. - The New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) announced the 2016 Division III All-New England teams on Monday, and Endicott saw three women receive recognition. Leading the way was sophomore Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) who garnered Second Team honors, while junior Marissa Carlson (Bristol, Conn.) was named to the Second Team, and senior Casey Mellen (Litchfield, N.H.) was named to the Third Team.

The three honorees represent the highest total for Endicott since the 2011 season that saw four women receive recognition. In 2016, the trio of Pernice, Carlson and Mellen was instrumental in leading the Gulls to a 13-4-2 record overall, the most wins for the Gulls since 2013.

For Pernice, the sophomore had the best season of her young career. The second year player led the Gulls with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists. Her 10 goals and the 25 points led the team while her five assists were second on the roster. A model of consistency, Pernice was one seven women to play in all nineteen matches in 2016, while she was just one of four Gulls to start in all 19 contests.

On the Carlson and Mellen, the duo anchored a stingy Endicott defense that allowed an average of just five shots on goal per game and posted 11 shutouts on the season which tied for tops in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). Carlson, a transfer junior, started all 19 contests for the Gulls. The defender registered one assist on the season in the team's 5-0 defeat of New England College on September 27. Mellen, a two year starter, played a pivotal role as a defensive midfielder in 2016. The co-captain posted two goals and an assist for five points so far on the season, bringing her career total to eight points. Mellen scored a goal and assisted on another for her first multi-point match of her career in the team's 4-2 win over Keene St. The senior also scored in the team's 2-2 draw against Babson as she she also started all 19 matches this season.

The honors were the first of their respective careers for each student-athlete.
