Mellen & Taylor Selected to 2016 DIII NEWISA Senior Bowl

2016 DIII NEWISA SENIOR BOWL ROSTER

BEVERLY, Mass.- The New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) announced the selections for the 2016 Senior Bowl this weekend and Endicott saw two members receive an invitation in Casey Mellen (Litchfield, N.H.) and Nicole Taylor (North Easton, Mass.).

The two women earned the selections after helping to guide the Gulls to a 48-23-11 (.726) record overall in their four seasons of play and an impressive 26-8-2 (.750) record in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. Under their leadership, the women qualified for the CCC Tournament in all four years, including when the team claimed the CCC Championship in 2013, after which they advanced to the second round of the NCAA DIII Tournament. The 2016 team posted a 13-4-2 (7-2 CCC) record and advanced to the CCC Semifinals before being ousted by eventual CCC Champion Wentworth.

Mellen, a two year starter who ended her career having played in 60 career matches including 31 starts, played a pivotal role as a defensive midfielder in 2016. The co-captain posted two goals and an assist for five points so far on the season, bringing her career total to eight points. Mellen scored a goal and assisted on another for her first multi-point match of her career in the team's 4-2 win over Keene St. The senior also scored in the team's 2-2 draw against Babson

Taylor, also a two year starter, started all 15 matches that she has competed in, missing time briefly for an injury. The co-captain finished her career with 28 starts in 48 matches played, making 27 of those starts over the last two seasons. The North Easton, Mass. native provided stability and speed on the backline for the Gulls as the unit allowed an average of just five shots on goal per game and posted 11 shutouts on the season which tied for tops in the league.

The NEWISA Senior Bowl will be held at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. on Saturday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m.
