BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season with a 52-50 loss to Bridgewater State at the Cave Classic on Friday evening at the Adrian Tinsley Center.
The Gulls took a 15-10 lead through the first quarter but the Bears came out strong in the second quarter to take a close 25-22 lead heading into halftime.
Both teams continued to go back and forth for the remainder of the game, but Bridgewater State was able to come away with the slight 52-50 victory.
Leading the Gulls in points was Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) with 20, while Catie Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) netted seven points. Kiernan also led the team in rebounds with eight. Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) was close behind with six boards.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.), Sam Charette (Wenham, Mass.), Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine), Mikaela Rogers (Haverhill, Mass.), Kaleigh Putnam (Wallingford, Conn.), and Pratt also added points for the Gulls.
- Four student-athletes led the team in assists, with three each.
- Emma Tierney (Wolfeboro, N.H.) registered one block during the contest.
- Pratt and Charette each had two steals on the night.
FOR THE FOES
- Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.) led the offense with 13 points, while Sara DaSilva (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Chanelle Melton (Brockton, Mass.) were close behind with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
- Fitzgerald also led the team in rebounds with seven.
- Rhiana Page (Brookline, Mass.) dished out a team-high three assists.
- Page and Elise McGovern (Raynham, Mass.) each recorded a block during the contest.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (0-1, 0-0 CCC) concludes play at The Cave Classic tomorrow, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m versus Norwich.
Bridgewater State (1-0, 0-0 MASCAC) also plays tomorrow, Nov. 18 in The Cave Classic against Colby-Sawyer at 3 p.m.
