Gulls Downed by Clark, 57-47

WALTHAM, Mass. -- In the consolation game of the Judges Classic at Brandeis, Clark University pulled away from Endicott in the second half to pul away for a 57-47 victory. Endicott trailed by just three at halftime, 22-19, but the Cougars shot 51.7% from the floor after the break to pull away.

Senior Nicole Heffernan (Londnderry, N.H.) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Gulls after leading the squad with 12 points and pulling in six rebounds on Saturday. Heffernan added five points in Sunday's game. 

The Gulls came as close as one point after Jordan Ferland (Charlestown, N.H.) opened the second half with a lay-up. Ferland also scored the Gulls' next four points from the line, making it a 30-25 Cougar lead with 16:57 on the clock.


Clark pulled away at that point, as they hit 10-of-15 shots while holding Endicott to just 3-of-14 with five turnovers over the next nine minutes. Six different Clark players contributed to the run, with sophomore Ashleigh Condon's (Hull, Mass.) hitting three in a row to push the lead from nine to 15 at 42-27 at the 12:30 mark. The lead ballooned to as many as 20 at 52-32 on sophomore Emily Reilly's (Marlborough, Mass.) lay-up with 8:21 before the Gulls closed on a 15-5 run to make it a 10-point final margin.

Endicott got 14 points and eight rebounds from Ferland to lead the team. Sophomore Jennifer White (Lisbon, N.H.) also had eight boards, while Heffernan had seven caroms, helping her team to a 44-43 edge on the glass. Sophomore guard Sarah Robinson (Norwich, Vt.) had three assists to pace Endicott.

For Clark, Condon led all players with 15 points, 11 coming after the intermission, while junior forward Kelsey Giedymin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had 10. Four different Clark players had either six or seven rebounds, with sophomore reserve forward Esther Cohn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) leading the Cougars with seven boards and three assists. Giedymin, sophomore Annmarie Fransen (Belmont, Mass.) and senior Kate Minister (Manchester, England) had six caroms each.

Heffernan was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Kate Minister from Clark, Diana Cincotta and Kelly Ethier from Brandeis and Colby's Rachael Mack. The Mules, who won the tournament's championship game over Brandeis, saw Jil Vaughan named as the weekend's MVP. 

The Gulls will open their home schedule on Tuesday night with a 5:30 pm matchup against Daniel Webster College.
