SPRINGFIELD,Mass. – Endicott College freshman
Kayleen Whall (Foxboro, Mass.) has been recognized
as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women’s basketball
rookie of the week. After helping Endicott to a 3-0 week, Whall
earned the first Rookie of the Week honor for the Gulls this
season, and their second CCC weekly award of 2011-12.
Whall’s signature performance of last week was her 19-point
outpouring against Gordon College on Wednesday night. Her
inside presence and her accuracy at the three-throw line (11-13)
helped the Gulls climb out of a 15 point hole and secure a 67-64
victory. Whall also shot 67% from the field (4-6), while pulling
down four rebounds and registering three steals. The 19-point
performance set a new career high for the freshman forward.
In the final CCC contest of the week, the rookie earned her second
start of the year and gathered nine points and collected two steals
to help the Gulls defeat Curry in a tightly contested 50-47
matchup. Whall averaged 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and
2.5 steals playing in two of Endicott’s three CCC triumphs
last week.
Whall has appeared in 21 games for the Gulls (15-8, 12-4 CCC). She
is averaging 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 21.5 minutes per
game.
Endicott will finish their home regular season schedule tonight
when they play the conference-leading University of New England at
6:00 pm in a game that has big implications for playoff
seeding.
Endicott will also honor their senior Nicole Heffernan and pack
the field house for a “Gulls Play for a Cure” game.
