BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College senior guard Jodi Brown (Coventry, RI/Coventry) recorded her 1,000th point in a win over Roger Williams University Saturday, becoming just the fourth women's basketball player to reach the career milestone.
Brown joins men's players Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro/Second Baptist School, TX) and Matt George (Dover, NH/Dover) as the third Endicott player to hit 1,000 this season. The co-captain entered Saturday's season finale versus Roger Williams eight points shy of the plateau, and needed a three-pointer to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.
"This is a great accomplishment for program," said head coach Jen Lucey. "She is a dedicated, unselfish team player who comes to play every day.
"I can't say enough good things about her. It's a great thing that he name will be up in the rafters along with the other great players in Endicott history."
Brown's name will be in the rafters along with Melissa Tarpey (1994-1998), Heidi Stevens (1996-2000) and Sarah Duffy (1997-2001) as the women's basketball players in Endicott's 1,000-point club. She is the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 9.3 points per game on a team-best 38-of-101 three-point field goals (.376 percent). Brown also has a team-high 2.1 steals and 2.0 assists.
Brown is the fifth player in the past three seasons to reach the 1,000-point plateau, joining George, Marinkovic, Josh Oxton (2001-2005) and Jeremy Currier (2000-2004). Other EC men's players with 1,000 points or more include Jon D'Orlando (1994-1998), Eric Simonelli (1998-2001), Andy Kirk (1998-2002), and Jason Diaz (1998-2002).
Brown has played in the most games in school history and she averages 26 minutes per game. She is averaging 9.6 points per game and is a career .353 three-point shooter and a .802 career free throw shooter. Brown has amassed over 300 career rebounds.
Endicott (16-9, 13-4) is the second seed in the North Division of the CCC Playoffs and will host Curry College Tuesday night.
