BOSTON, MA - Senior guard Liz Yuneman (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep) scored 11 points and sophomore forward Sara Doherty (Somerville, MA/Arlington Catholic) scored 10 points as Endicott snapped the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team's six-game win streak with a 62-41 win in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Tansey Gym.
The first half saw both teams suffer from cold shooting, with the Gulls shooting 28.6 percent from the floor and holding the hosts to 20.8 percent. Despite leading by a pair with 9:09 left in the half, the Leopards allowed a 12-2 run to fall behind by eight (19-11). Despite trimming the lead to six, Endicott held a 24-14 halftime lead. The Gulls held the Leopards without a field goal over the final 7:06 of the half.
To open the second half, Endicott used an 11-5 spurt to bring the lead to 16 (35-19) with 14:27 left on a pair of Yuneman free throws. The Gulls continued to build upon their lead, leading by as much as 23 in the second half, while forcing a total of 21 turnovers and less than 30 percent shooting from the field.
Junior guard Carly Haynes (Laconia, NH/Laconia) led the Gulls on the boards pulling in seven rebounds while also contributing five points and three assists. Junior forward Paris Sanders (Needham,MA/Minuteman Regional) added nine points and six rebounds off the bench. And senior captain Jodi Brown (Coventry, RI/Coventry) added five points, a team high four assists and three steals.
Sophomore forward Emily Cring (Cicero, NY) led Wentworth with 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Cheyenne Noble (Murrysville, PA) chipped in with eight points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.
Endicott will host Anna Maria College Saturday at MacDonald Gymnasium (3:00 PM).
