No. 4 Springfield Turns Away Men’s Volleyball, 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's volleyball team lost a hard-fought matchup to No. 4 nationally ranked Springfield, 3-0, on Friday night by scores of 20-25, 19-25, and 26-28 at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) posted a match-high 15 kills (.333), three digs, and two blocks (one solo).

Dean Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) added nine kills (.375) and a team-high five digs, while Mason Mallory (Playa del Rey, Calif.) had five putaways and a block assist to highlight the rest of the attack.

Gavin Emenaker (Newton, Mass.) facilitated the offense via 26 assists (.433).

Tonight's match featured 15 ties (3-4-8) and two lead changes (0-0-2).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • In set one, the Gulls tied up the score midway through at 13-13 (Laborde kill) and 15-15 (Pohl solo block), but Springfield pulled away with a 5-0 run to come away with the eventual victory.
  • In set three, Endicott erased a late 22-20 deficit with a 4-0 run thanks to three errors by the Pride and a kill by Iacovelli to go up 24-22. Springfield answered back with two kills and benefited from four Gulls' errors to complete the sweep.
  • Iacovelli was a perfect 20-for-20 on serve receive (eight led to kills, .400).
  • Vance Mallory (Playa del Rey, Calif.) notched a match-high 26 receptions (9 turned into kills, 1 reception error, .963, 3 digs).

Endicott (5-5) takes on MIT and Vassar in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday, February 17 at 3/5 PM. No. 4 Springfield (9-1) visits New Paltz on Wednesday, February 14 at 6 PM.
