Tournament MVP Roche and Wasik earn NECC weekly awards

BEVERLY, Mass. - Junior setter Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and freshman middle Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) were named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their efforts over the past week in bringing Endicott men's volleyball its first NECC title and automatic bid into the NCAA DIII Tournament where they will host a First Round match this Saturday night.

Roche, who was named NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player, averaged 13.8 assists between the semifinal and championship match victories for Endicott over the weekend.  He also totaled eight digs, two kills, two solo blocks, and three assisted blocks in the NECC Tournament.  Earlier in the week, Roche dished out 23 assists and defended with 12 digs and four total blocks in a three-set loss to #13 MIT.  

Wasik collected his second straight NECC Rookie of the Week award after averaging 2.1 kills and 1.2 blocks per set while swinging at a .292 hitting percentage for the week.  Wasik stood out in the NECC Tournament with 15 kills including six errorless points earned on a .857 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over Southern Vermont in the semifinal round.  In the finals, the freshman had nine kills and four blocks to help send the Gulls into the NCAA Tournament. 

Roche, Wasik, and the rest of the Endicott men's volleyball team will practice this week in anticipation of their home NCAA First Round match against Kean on Saturday, April 20th at 7:00 pm in MacDonald Gymnasium.
