BEVERLY, Mass. – Director of Athletics Brian Wylie announced today that George Chapell will be the next head coach for the Endicott men's volleyball team after serving as the program's assistant coach for the past four seasons.
Chapell, a 2008 graduate and former men's volleyball student-athlete at Endicott, will also take on the role of Assistant Sports Information Director in his new full-time role in the Endicott community. During his time as a player, the Gulls reached the NECVA Semifinals in 2004 and made three ECAC Tournament appearances in 2004, 2005, and 2007. He was a three-year starter and a co-captain.
"We are thrilled that Coach Chapell will be joining the Endicott family," said Wylie. "He has seen first-hand how not only the institution has grown exponentially since his graduating with an undergraduate degree in 2008, but also the men's volleyball program as the assistant coach over the past four years."
After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education Teacher Licensure from Endicott, Chapell joined then head coach Tim Byram's coaching staff as an assistant where he was an integral factor in the Gulls winning back-to-back NECVA New England Division titles (2009, 2010), making two ECAC North Championships (2011, 2012), and producing all-american and all-conference players. Endicott is coming off a 17-15 season in which they made it to the NECC Championship, the ECAC Championship, and competed against nationally and regionally ranked opponents.
Chapell factored into Endicott's recruiting efforts as well, organizing overnight visits and scheduling informative events for prospective student-athletes. He worked to build a large alumni following by engaging former Endicott men's volleyball student-athletes through program updates and scheduled alumni events. He also managed any disciplinary and academic issues with the team.

Chapell takes over the program from Byram who turns his attention solely to the Gulls women's volleyball program. Byram had previously been the coach of both the men's and women's teams since he joined the Endicott community in 2000.
