Tyler Bacon claims NECC Rookie of the Week honors

BEVERLY, Mass. - Freshman setter Tyler Bacon (Cypress, Calif.) gave Endicott men's volleyball its first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly honors, taking home the Rookie of the Week award in a 4-1 week for the Gulls.

Bacon averaged 9.24 assists while playing in all 17 sets this week for Endicott who defeated NECC opponent Regis as well as Johnson & Wales (R.I.), Emerson, and Lasell at the ever-challenging MIT Invitational.  Endicott also played the #10 ranked Rivier at the invitational and Bacon helped the Gulls take one set from the Raiders as he compiled 30 assists and three digs with a service ace and a kill.

Arguably Bacon's best performances of the week came on day one of the MIT Invitational as the freshman totaled 34 assists in straight set sweep victories over Johnson & Wales (R.I.) and Emerson.  Bacon also added three kills in each of those matches and helped the Gulls to a .286 team hitting percentage.

Against Regis in conference play, Bacon helped Endicott remain unbeaten against NECC foes as the Gulls won 3-0 behind 29 assists and four aces from their setter.

Endicott (7-4, 2-0 NECC) moves to play a pair of NECC teams this week including a home match on Wednesday against Newbury and a road match up against Lesley on Saturday afternoon.
