Wheaton Bests Men’s Tennis, 7-0

NORTON, Mass. — The Endicott men's tennis team fell to Wheaton (Mass.), 7-0, in non-conference action on Saturday evening at the Beard Field House.

The Lyons took the doubles point to begin the match, winning flights No. 1 (6-3) and No. 3 (6-4).

However, Endicott's No. 2 duo of Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) / George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) turned in a gritty 7-5 victory to provide momentum heading into singles play.

Wheaton responded with victories at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 (6-2, 6-4), and No. 5 (2-6, 6-3, 1-6) singles to clinch the spring season opener between the two teams.

The remaining singles flights featured strong performances from the Gulls, as all three matches went the distance.

Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) played to a 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 1-6 result at No. 1, Ethan Hopman (Summit, N.J.) concluded No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 2-6, 4-6 score, and Spencer Smith (Albany, N.Y.) fell in a 7-6, 4-6, 4-10 decision at No. 6.

Endicott (0-2) visits Coast Guard on Saturday, February 22 at 1 PM. Wheaton (1-3) plays Mary Hardin-Baylor in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, March 9.
