Men’s Tennis Falls To Springfield, 6-1

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's tennis team fell to Springfield, 6-1, in non-conference action at the South Campus Courts on Tuesday evening.

The Gulls top duo of George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) captured a 6-4 victory, while the Pride took the point in doubles flights. 

Meanwhile, Danes continued his winning ways with a 1-6, 6-3, 11-9 triumph in No. 2 singles. 

The Blue and Green received some hard-fought setbacks via No. 5 Spencer Smith (Albany, N.Y.) (6-4, 6(5)-7(7), 8-10) and No. 6 Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) (4-6, 6-3, 6-10).

"We had a lot of tight matches and opportunities against a talented team. Perhaps we surprised ourselves a bit. The sky is the limit with this group," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's match was played in conjunction with new NCAA-wide rules which only award one point for winning the doubles portion of the match (best of 3, one point).
  • The Gulls return 2024 all-conference honorees in Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany), Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), and George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.).
  • Ethan Hopman (Summit, N.J.) and Eric Scalici (Essex Fells, N.J.) made their Endicott debuts today, respectively.

Both Endicott (0-1) and Springfield (2-0) compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament this weekend, Friday, September 27 through Sunday, September 29.
