WORCESTER, Mass. - Victories at the #5 and #6 singles positions by sophomores Timothy Forance (Natick, Mass.) and Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) proved to be the only bright spot in a 7-2 season opener loss to Clark on the road for the Gulls men's tennis team.
Forance stormed past Clark junior Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at the #5 singles flight while Gandrup, battled his Cougars opponent sophomore Scott Cabell (West Hartford, Conn.) to a 7-6, 4-6, 10-4 triumph at the #6 singles match.
Both players are looking to improve upon their rookie campaigns in which Forance was 9-7 overall in singles play and 3-2 with a variety of doubles partners and in a limited role, Gandrup was 2-2 in singles but amassed an 11-6 record in doubles play.
On Saturday, September 22nd, the Gulls return to the hard court at the Connecticut College Tournament in New London.
