ENDICOTT COLLEGE PROGRAMS OF STUDY | INTERNSHIPS AND CAREERS

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Here's a look into men's lacrosse student-athlete and marketing major Justin Horine's '19 (Fairfield, Conn.) internship experience at Major League Lacrosse (MLL)

ECGULLS: Describe your overall internship experience.

HORINE: My time at Major League Lacrosse so far has been very exciting. The professional landscape of lacrosse is constantly changing as the sport continues to grow. Specifically in the short time I've been in the office, the league has made significant changes in order to prioritize their players. The league recently increased the salary cap by 51%, added an additional player to the Game Day Roster (GDR), as well as two games to the regular season. Being front and center for these changes has been incredibly insightful. As an intern in the sponsorship and sales department, I've been able to see how this renewed investment into the league has translated into leveraging new partnerships and sponsors.

ECGULLS: What have you learned from your internship?

HORINE: In my first months with the league I was reintroduced to the sponsorship industry, and given in-depth knowledge of the proposal, renewal, and activation process. Partnerships are valuable assets especially in the sports and entertainment industry. Partners are essential for growing the leagues audience as well as building its brand. Sponsorships are crucial to cash flow for the league and its players. In addition to developing industry knowledge, I've been able to continue to fine tune my organizational and business communication skills.

ECGULLS: How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

HORINE: This internship has helped me refine and narrow down my career search. My past two internships have been sponsorship driven and my time with the MLL has reaffirmed my passion for sponsorship and sales. The sponsorship and sales landscape is ever-changing and fast-paced, it mirrors many of the traits that drew me to lacrosse, which is why I believe it's a great fit for me.

THE ENDICOTT INTERNSHIP MODEL

A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.

Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:

  • Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
  • Develop competencies for careers and community service
  • Explore career options and gain field experience
  • Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
  • Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner

"The Endicott internship model allows students to have multiple opportunities throughout their college experience to discover their passions, bolster career confidence, and develop a marketable skill set while creating a professional network that will serve them well after graduation," said Endicott's Dean of the Internship and Career Center Eric Hall. "Endicott students leave with the career-readiness competencies and passion needed to excel in today's workforce."
