Beverly, MA - The Endicott men's lacrosse team (14-3) captured the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship today, defeating rival Gordon College, 16-4. The win marks the second year in a row the Gulls have won the CCC Championship and their 20th consecutive conference win.
The scoring began early as Burt Fahy netted the first goal a minute into the game off a feed from Josh Gilbert. Gordon's Michael Neumann quickly answered with a goal to tie the score. Fahy scored two more times in the first quarter as the Gulls held the lead for the remainder of the game. The first quarter scoring was capped off with the winning goal when Dan Ryan scored with just two seconds remaining from a 40 yard assist from Rick Hancock.
"To repeat as champions is always very difficult to do," said head coach Sean Quirk. "Every team, every game is gunning for you. To repeat as CCC champions is a tremendous accomplishment by our young men. They were focused on winning this championship from day one. I am extremely proud of each individual that is a part of the Endicott College men's lacrosse program. The seniors have shown their commitment to win championships."
Endicott was led offensively by Fahy who finished with 4 goals and 3 assists. Kevin Lally added 2 goals and 4 assists, Gilbert tallied 3 goals and 1 assist and Sam Chidester netted 3 goals. Defensively, Endicott was anchored by Patrick Gaffney with 9 ground balls and one goal and Ryan Walsh who finished with 12 saves in net.
Michael Neumann led the Gordon offense with 2 goals. John Harshaw and Dan Mitchell each had a goal and an assist. Gordon (9-6) awaits a possible ECAC tournament bid.
With the win, Endicott (14-3) receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament which begins May 11th.
