Beverly, MA--In the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, Paul Lord scored 6 goals and Kevin Lally had six assists to lead Endicott to a 17-3 win over visiting Roger Williams University.
The Gulls (11-6) scored their first goal, 3:24 into the game when Lord took a pass from Lally and put a shot past Roger Williams goalie, Jamie McCoy (25 saves). Over a minute later, Lord would assist on the second goal for the Gulls, by passing to Cory Fox. The Gulls would add three more goals before the end of the first quarter. Burt Fahy scored a pair of goals, sandwiched between a tally by Dan Ryan. At the end of the first quarter, EC had a 5-0 advantage.
The Gulls struck first in the second quarter as Lord scored his second goal of the game, off a feed from Clattenburg at the 13:06 mark of the period. Roger Williams scored their first goal of the game when, at the 11:20 mark, David Plescia put a shot past EC goalie, Matt Bagshaw (12 saves). Sam Chidester, Marc MacMillan, Lord and Lally, all found the back of the cage during the second quarter. Chidester and Lally each had one goal apiece, Chidester had two and Lord added three more before half. EC outscored RWU, 7-1 to give the Gulls a 12-1 advantage going into halftime.
The Hawks scored their second goal of the game in the 11:32 mark, and put the ball between the pipes again in the 5:54 mark. But the Gulls continued to dominate and overpower the Hawks. Lord scored his fifth goal of the game, and MacMillan and Chidester added a goal apiece, giving EC a commanding lead, 15-3.
Only seconds into the final quarter, Lord scored his sixth goal of the game. This was Lord's third unassisted goal of the game. With nine minutes remaining in the Championship game, Fahy scored his third goal of the game, off a feed from Lally. This would be the last goal scored by both teams, capping the score at 17-3.
EC won 12 of the 10 face-offs in the circle, out-shot the Hawks, 52 to 25 and picked up 48 ground balls to RWU's 19 ground balls.
As CCC Champions, the men's lacrosse team earns an automatic bid into the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The first round of the National Tournament begins May 12th.
